Virtual Visits: The New Way to go to the Doctor

JPS Health Network launches telemedicine

There’s a new way to see the doctor at JPS!

JPS Health Network is now offering virtual visits which allow patients to video conference with their doctor from the comfort and safety of their own home. You can see a provider for urgent care visits, when you have a minor emergency that would otherwise cause you to visit an urgent care center. Or, instead of going to your doctor’s office for your regularly scheduled visits, you can get checked out from home.

“This is not a new venture for JPS,” explained Novella Tascoe, Director of CMS Innovations and Value Based Care. “We have been working for months on this. It’s something we believe will tremendously help our patients who have transportation and mobility issues. When COVID-19 happened, it increased the speed for our expansion. It was a catalyst to ramp up quickly.”

In-person doctor visits will always be an option. But we believe telemedicine is going to be very popular.

Tascoe said while the new services will help serve and protect patients during the pandemic, they were in the works before COVID-19 and will remain for the convenience of patients afterward.

“We started offering telemedicine services to JPS team members and their families last year,” Tascoe said. “It gave us a chance to lay the foundation for offering the services to patients. If there is a silver lining to COVID-19, it helped smooth out the transition and introduce telemedicine to our patients.”

How does it work? There are three easy steps:

  1. To schedule a regular appointment with your provider, call 817-702-3000 and let us know you would like a virtual visit, or click here to start an On-Demand Urgent Care visit.
  2. Conduct your visit with your doctor using your smart phone, electronic tablet or your computer and explain any concerns you may have.
  3. If your doctor prescribes medication during the course of your virtual visit, all you have to do is pick it up. If circumstances allow, mail order prescriptions may also be available from your pharmacy.

“We think patients are really going to like their new alternatives,” Tascoe said. “In-person doctor visits will always be an option. But we believe telemedicine is going to be very popular and, eventually, it’ll account for 50 percent of all healthcare visits.”
