The JPS Podcast: Heart, Health, and Hope

Heart, Health, and Hope, Congestive Heart Failure

Season 4: Episode 3 Show Notes

Congestive Heart Failure is a disease that affects people of all ages and may sound scary if you aren't properly informed on what the diagnosis means.

Tatiyana Giddings met with cardiologist Dr. Sandeep Kamath and physician assistant Gregory Duck to help explain congestive heart failure and to inform patients that it is a treatable disease.

Heart Health Resources

If you have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure or want to learn more about it, the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) shares essential information to keep individuals educated and updated on information regarding heart failure and how to live with the diagnosis.

There are different types of heart failure. Congestive heart failure is the type of heart failure that requires timely medical attention. The American Heart Association shares information on what heart failure is, the causes and risks, symptoms, who it affects, treatment options, and more.

We recently covered an event where our JPS Community Outreach team shared the importance of maintaining a healthy heart. They gave helpful tips on how patients and community members can improve their cardiovascular health.

In the podcast, Duck mentioned “orthopnea” as a symptom of congestive heart failure that isn’t generally thought of. It shows that congestive heart failure affects individuals in many different aspects. Orthopnea is the experience of shortness of breath while lying down, but it goes away when the person is sitting upright, so it can keep a person from getting rest. Although it is a sign of heart failure, it can be caused by other diseases.
