Cassie Lyell, DNP, RN, TCRN decided she wanted to be part of JPS Health Network when she arrived in 2001 as a nursing student at TCU, doing clinical rotations and learning from veteran nurses in Surgical Services, the Intensive Care Unit, and the Orthopaedic/Neurosurgical Unit.

Her long list of JPS mentors have shared their knowledge and skills and supported her professional growth.

“The teams I have worked with have challenged me to never stop learning or finding innovative solutions to problems, and I have benefited from receiving my own healthcare at JPS during some of the toughest moments in my life,” she says.

Over the years, Lyell has held several roles at JPS, starting in 2002 when she worked the night shift in the ICU. After a brief stint at another hospital, she returned to JPS in 2009 to work in Trauma Services, holding positions including Trauma Nurse Clinician and Trauma Services Manager. She currently serves as Executive Director for Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Forensics.

“Being a part of a Level 1 Trauma Center and nursing leadership team, continually improving and expanding services for our patients is professionally rewarding,”

“JPS has deeply influenced the trajectory of my personal and professional life. I met my husband 17 years ago through a friend from JPS and have made many other lifelong friendships here. I found mentors who inspired and encouraged me through earning my Master’s and Doctorate degrees,” she says.

What keeps Lyell at JPS after two decades? It’s the people, she says, both JPS patients and team members.

“Being a part of a Level 1 Trauma Center and nursing leadership team, continually improving and expanding services for our patients is professionally rewarding,” she said. “I also have the privilege of spending my days with and learning from the best trauma teams, leaders, and physician partners.”
