Dr. James Oh Do

Serving the Tarrant County community is a passion for JPS transitional resident intern James Oh, DO, who grew up hearing his mother's amazing story of his birth at JPS Health Network.

Dr. Oh said his mother spoke highly of the doctors and nurses who cared for her, and the story inspired him to become a physician. He wanted to take care of patients, especially underprivileged patients.

"I chose JPS because I had a connection here, and I wanted to come back and serve those who served both my parents and me," Dr. Oh said.

Dr. Oh attended the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. During medical school, he completed most of his core rotations at JPS, which allowed him to learn more about the hospital and its reputation for prioritizing residency education.

"All the attendings were very willing to teach their residents and medical students, and you have so much pathology here," Dr. Oh said. "We're a Level I Trauma Center and a stroke center, so we see everything that comes through the doors, and we accept everyone.”

Along with residency education, Dr. Oh had a profound moment during his first rotation that influenced his decision to return to JPS. Caring for the newborn babies made him imagine himself and his mother, which inspired him to do his best to help his patients.

To best help his patients, Dr. Oh decided to study Radiology, considering diagnostic or interventional. He chose this field of study because "it's not bound by an organ system," so he’s able to see a wide range of patients.

"You're able to see images from pediatrics to geriatrics, and I really love that you can see everything," Dr. Oh said. "I also love the technology and innovation that comes with radiology.”

Dr. Oh said the opportunity to serve his community is special to him. He feels it is a privilege to treat and be a part of a patient’s care journey.

“I want to serve my community,” Dr. Oh said. “I want to help as many patients as I can through technology and radiology.”
