Why I Donate Blood

I decided to become a public health researcher for the cliché reason to help people and make a difference. I’m proud to work at JPS Health Network and take pride in serving. I also like to find ways outside of work to help people.

We all get hung up in our own world sometimes, focused on meeting our own needs. But we are all part of something greater than ourselves, and I think as human beings we have a responsibility to each other. Donating blood is another way that I choose to give back. I feel fortunate that I am able to donate; I recognize that not everyone can.

I found out that my Carter BloodCare donations so far add up to the equivalent of three gallons. Wow. I didn’t realize the impact. What’s my blood type? B-positive, or as I like to say, ‘I be positive.’

The next blood drive at JPS will be Monday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Skills Lab on the third floor of the OPC. Donors must bring along a driver’s license or other state-issued I.D. (not just a JPS badge) and can reserve a time in advance by clicking here:
