Robert William Whitman attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he received a bachelor of arts degree biology. He continued his education and received a master of science degree in health care administration at Trinity University in San Antonio. Whitman completed an administrative residency at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals (Carrillion), Roanoke, Va., and then moved to Galax, Va., where he worked as the first assistant administrator at Twin County Community Hospital. He moved to Fort Worth in 1981.

Whitman joined Harris Methodist Health System (Texas Health Resources), in Fort Worth in 1981 as a vice president, then continued serving as a Sr. VP/Administrator for Harris Methodist HEB (THR Harris HEB) in 1984.  In 1991, Whitman served as the Managing Director – Operations (EVP/COO) of the flagship hospital, Harris Methodist Fort Worth (THR Harris Fort Worth) and its suburban facility Harris Methodist Southwest (THR Harris Southwest). He then served in a variety of corporate roles for Harris Methodist (THR) from 1994 to 1999.

In 2007, Whitman became a healthcare consultant to provide overall project coordination, process and timeline management for select Tarrant County hospitals.

Whitman joined JPS in 2008 as a healthcare consultant and began his current role in 2009.

Whitman is married and during his free time he enjoys spending as much time as possible with his two grandsons, 7 and 5, and working at his ranch.
