Unique Aspects of the Program

John Peter Smith Hospital is a busy county hospital with Level I Trauma accreditation. The residents see more than 12,000 patients per year in the JPS orthopaedic clinic. These patients often have the a range of orthopaedic problems, usually at more advanced stages. Because there are no residencies in neurosurgery and plastic surgery, JPS orthopaedic residents care for all patients with hand and spine disorders.

JPS orthopaedic residents consistently perform operations at a rate significantly higher than the national average, and the breadth of experience is outstanding. Residents have significant hands-on experience throughout their training with direct supervision by faculty members who genuinely enjoy teaching.
