JPS Health Promotions Wellness/Health Education Program is committed to addressing health issues that impact the residents of Tarrant County.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The goal of our community-based program is to improve the health status of families and individuals living in Tarrant County. Health education is provided by nine registered nurses and includes instruction on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management skills. Topics include but are not limited to diabetes, asthma, hypertension, heart failure, smoking cessation, as well as prenatal, childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and child passenger safety (car seat) education.
Classes are offered weekly at a variety of JPS health centers and the JPS Main Campus. Instruction is provided in English and Spanish. Education classes at the community health centers are held Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A limited number of classes are offered in the evening and on Saturday morning at the JPS Main Campus.
ELIGIBILITY
Wellness/Health education classes are open to all residents of Tarrant County. Participation in some education classes is limited to certain age groups. Prenatal and childbirth education is open to all pregnant women. There is a $10 fee per class for non-JPS patients.
