Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE)

JPS Health Network was awarded NICHE designation in 2015, the first public hospital in North Texas committed to a national campaign to elevate quality of care for older adults.

Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE), is a national effort to make healthcare more accessible and accommodating for older adults, changing institutional cultures and educating providers. The program's initial focus is on nurses, who provide the bulk of hands-on care for hospitalized patients in the hospital. Nurses in NICHE facilities are provided with training and encouraged to become Geriatric Resource Nurses (GRNs) - nurses with advanced geriatrics training who serve as resource nurses for their units.

This program and certification allows JPS to work and train our nursing staff to provide better, and specialized care, for our geriatric patients.

WE HAIL

The WE HAIL program intends to transform training of health care providers and caregivers to help increase the number of these professionals in Tarrant County and surrounding rural counties.

JPS Health Network, UNT Health Science Center, Texas Christian University and the United Way's Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County are collaborating to transform geriatric care in North Texas by improving medical training and health-care delivery for the region's rapidly growing population of older residents. The project is called Workforce Enhancement for Healthy Aging and Independent Living (WE HAIL) and is funded by a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services.
