Residency Programs: Transitional

The Transitional Residency Program at John Peter Smith Hospital accepts twelve residents each year. The program is based at John Peter Smith Hospital, the 459 bed public hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. This is a 12 month program designed to provide the resident with a broad general internship prior to entering specialties such as Anesthesia, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Dermatology, Neurology or Pathology.

Rotations include:

  • 2 Months Surgery
  • 2 Months ER
  • 1 Month Selective (OB, Orthopedics, or Family Practice)
  • 2 Months Electives
  • 3 Months Internal Medicine
  • 2 Months Pediatrics

A resident who matches in this program can arrange subsequent years of training either individually outside the match or by listing our PGY-1 program under the supplement list for year one and the career choice PGY-2 year under the Primary Rank Order List. The NRMP program number for transitional is 1711999P1.
