Residency Programs: Obstetrics and Gynecology

Obstetrics and Gynecology is a four year residency program based at John Peter Smith Hospital, the 459-bed county hospital serving Tarrant County and Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, a 500-bed private hospital in Fort Worth. The first year of training is a categorical Obstetrics/Gynecology internship. During this first year, you complete rotations in Internal Medicine (primarily outpatient), Geriatrics, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics (primarily Neonatal ICU), Surgery, Ante-partum Testing and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The second year is an opportunity for the resident to gain more experience in obstetrics, gynecology and ante-partum testing. Throughout the third year, residents are offered the opportunity to participate with Attending Staff in the care of private patients at Harris Methodist and receive training in Gynecology Endocrinology, Gynecology Oncology, Perinatology and Breast Care. During the fourth year, residents serve as chief resident at John Peter Smith Hospital. JPS has more than 5,000 deliveries each year. Additionally, there are over 10,000 OB triage visits and 30,000 outpatient clinic visits. Formal conferences are held weekly and cover topics such as perinatology, endocrinology, pathology, radiology, oncology, sonography and genetics. Four residents are selected each year through the National Resident Matching Program, number 171123. An interview is required prior to consideration and only applications received via ERAS will be considered. Completion of this program will fulfill the training requirements for the Board examination in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
