Pharmacoepidemiology Lab

The CEHDR Pharmacoepidemiology Lab conducts population-based research on the use and effects of drugs in real-world settings. Our work focuses on the following areas:

  • Drug utilization: Drugs must be appropriately prescribed to optimize benefits and reduce adverse effects. We assess prescription patterns and test interventions to improve the quality of drug prescribing.
  • Drug effectiveness and safety: The effectiveness and safety of drugs are established in clinical trials before approval for use, but drug effects may vary when used in real-world settings. We evaluate the effectiveness and safety of drugs in real-world settings, with particular interest in populations under-represented in clinical trials.
  • Medication adherence: Patient adherence to prescribed medications is critical for optimizing health outcomes. We assess medication adherence patterns and evaluate interventions to improve adherence.
