FORT WORTH – Sal LoCoco, MD, a gynecological oncology surgeon at JPS Health Network, and Elizabeth Carter, MD, director of physician quality at JPS, have been named Healthcare Heroes by the Dallas Business Journal. Both physicians are featured in the August 1 edition of the publication.

“JPS Health Network is home to more than 500 physicians dedicated to improving healthcare for the underserved,” said Jay Haynes, MD, Chief Medical Officer at JPS. “Carter and LoCoco are very deserving of this honor and represent the best at JPS. I am also proud that they both trained here.”

In addition to serving as a physician at JPS, LoCoco is also Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UNT Health Science Center and serves on the teaching faculty at JPS. He also serves as team physician for All Saints Episcopal School and was recently named chair of the committee on cancer for the Texas Medical Association. LoCoco is a Fellow of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He completed his internship and residency at John Peter Smith Hospital and fellowship in gynecological oncology at the University of Toronto.

“JPS has really led the community in adopting advanced technology like the da Vinci robot,” said LoCoco. “I’m very proud of the work we’ve done to improve patient outcomes.”

Carter also serves as vice president of the medical staff and has actively worked to increase physician input across all levels at JPS. She serves on the credentialing and physician excellence committees and directs teams working on working on diabetes and colon cancer screening initiatives. In her free time, she serves on the board of EXCEL Excellence Academy, an Arlington non-profit that works with residents who are interested in learning English.

Carter, who is of the Baha’i faith, also serves on an assembly that runs the affairs for the Arlington community. Carter completed her residency at John Peter Smith Hospital.

“I have a high regard for the patients JPS serves and for the mission of our organization,” said Carter. “I am honored to receive this distinction.”
